My SATURNALIA exhibition in Berlin
On 12 September 2024 my SATURNALIA exhibition finally opened at Galerie FeinArt Berlin. Originally scheduled for November 2023, it had to be postponed at short notice because of flooding. Second time round (forgetting my passport!) I missed my flight and almost missed my own opening! But I got there in the end, and all the travails of cancellations and logistics proved worthwhile. One benefit from the delay was that the SATURNALIA exhibition became part of Zeitgeist Irland 2024, a programme of cultural events supported by Culture Ireland and the Irish Embassy in Berlin. Another is that the exhibition coincided with Berlin Art Week, so maximising exposure for the work as ‘culture vultures’ explore the capital and visit each gallery in turn.
FeinArt Berlin is a fabulous gallery with a great space to showcase paintings and gallerist Maria Wirth a charming and excellent host. Irish Consul Andrew Tyrrell formally opened the exhibition with a large and supportive crowd of Irish and Berliners in attendance. Amidst the drinks and conversations new friendships were made and old acquaintances renewed. In the days afterward (it being my first visit to Berlin) I got to see some great museums that have been long on my wish-list.
The exhibition continues until October 24th, 2024 and events during the run include an a talk by me on October 5th, live portrait sessions in the gallery and the Finissage with drinks on the evening of the last day.
Below are some photos from the opening and a video tour of the exhibition where I discuss each work. Enjoy!
